Vice Foreign Minister Ger Bau-shuan received Zsuzsanna Hargitai, managing director for the SME Finance and Development group of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Nov. 11 in Taipei City.

Taiwan is an important partner for EBRD, Ger stated, adding that Taiwan will continue to strengthen cooperation with the bank to assist economic and social development in other countries. The country will also continue to explore further international business opportunities for domestic enterprises with EBRD.

Hargitai responded that the EBRD attaches great importance to its partnerships with the Taiwan administration and the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF). Her itinerary includes visits to business and financial institution representatives and the bank anticipates deepening collaboration in areas spanning green energy, digital technology and information and communications technology.

Established in 1991 in London, EBRD assists countries in transition to market-oriented economies and promotes private and entrepreneurial initiatives in Africa, Central and Western Asia, and Central and Eastern Europe. According to the MOFA, Taiwan has participated in multiple co-financing initiatives and contributed to over 400 of the bank’s technical cooperation projects since the TaiwanBusiness-EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund was launched in 2006. (YCH-E)
